Summiting Kopparn mountain
Kopparen with its altitude of 483 meters above sea level (1585 ft) is a circular shaped mountain with beautiful views all round. The hike, with gravel road to the top, is doable both for kids and grown-ups. For some the hike might seem strenous, but for most the labor is forgotten as soon as the summit, with its spectacular views is reached. Beware of the weather -- at times it can be quite windy at the summit.

There are two main routes to reach the summit. We would like to recommend the route starting from the village of Tørrem (Route 2).

Route 1:: The hike follows a gravel road from the south side of Kopparn. The hike is about 4,5 km (approx. 3 miles) from the parking lot to the summit. At normal pace you should be able to get to the top in about 1,5 hours and return in about an hour. The first part of the trip meanders through a pretty forested area. After exiting the forest you will first be able to enjoy a nice view of the town of Bjugn, then the city of Brekstad and after a while the Trondheim fjord. About halfway up you will pass the Kopparn pond, and a bit later you'll be able to rest and take in the view at a lean-to (gapahuk). After the lean-to, the hike becomes steeper as it switchbacks up the uppermost part of the mountain.

At the top you will be rewarded with spectactactular views of the surrounding area including the archipelago, North-South shipping lane, the Atlantic ocean. On clear days you can see all the way to the Halten lighthouse around 47 km (29 miles) to the northwest.
Follow the same gravel road back to the parking lot.

Route 2:  This is a new and a bit more challenging route. Starting by the parking lot in the village of Tørrem it is about a 2,5 km (1,5 miles) hike. This is a starting point to other hikes and the lean-to (gapahuk) in Tørrem.

The hike starts by following a field that leads you into the forest. A well-marked and somewhat steep path elevates you quickly to many lovely scenic views. You can among other things see the village of Tørrem, Vallersund, Lysøysund and the Atlantic ocean.

If lucky, you will see eagle, roa deer and perhaps even a rabbit or two.
